OUR ATTC

The Mid-Atlantic Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC), located at Virginia Commonwealth University, serves to improve the quality of addiction treatment and recovery services within its region by facilitating alliances among policymakers, treatment agencies, clinicians, consumers and other stakeholders and connecting them to the latest research and information through technology transfer activities. Through a variety of materials, programs and courses, the ATTC enhances the knowledge and skills of all professionals working the front lines of addiction and mental health treatment.

The ATTC initiative, funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment of the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration, is a part of a national network comprised of 14 regional centers that serves all 50 states and the U.S. Territories. The ATTCs have as their mission, unifying science, education and services to transform lives.

TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER
The Mid-Atlantic ATTC bridges the gap between researchers and practitioners in state agencies, universities, and community treatment programs by transferring current research to treatment application through:
  • Systems Development & Linkages
  • Higher Education
  • Professional Development
  • Cultural Competence
  • Outreach

SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT/CHANGE
Systems Development or Linkages for Systems Change
The Mid-Atlantic ATTC creates linkages to build a network of infrastructures for unifying professional leadership, for creating and supporting high-standard training and education, for developing cohesive responses to legislative initiatives, for activating grassroots support for the field, and for enhancing the professionalization of addiction treatment.

HIGHER EDUCATION
The Mid-Atlantic ATTC works to advance higher education on all levels by supporting faculty who teach about Substance Use Disorders in the classroom, through support of Higher Education Consortia, and through encouraging development of research and competency-based curricula and programs in colleges and universities. It proudly disseminates and advocates the use of CSAT’s Tap 21: The Knowledge Skills and Attitudes of Professional Practice, in curriculum development.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Mid-Atlantic ATTC promotes the highest quality of professional work in addiction treatment through its development of competency-based continuing education courses. Additionally, it supports professional organization conferences by assisting conference committees in program and course development, and by providing speakers, materials and logistical support.

CULTURAL COMPETENCE
Mid-Atlantic ATTC collaborates with institutions of higher education, state agencies, and community-based treatment organizations to provide or co-sponsor courses, training sessions, and workshops on cultural awareness and diversity in compliance with current guidelines in cultural competency.
Outreach

Mid-Atlantic ATTC supports and provides technical assistance for various initiatives and partners across our region, such as motivational interviewing resources, the Consortium for Substance Addiction Organizations (CSAO). It publishes the Catalog of Programs and Courses in Addiction Education , with updates on the web.

Mid-Atlantic ATTC proudly disseminates and advocates the use of CSAT’s Tap 21 for curriculum and professional development, clinical supervision, and credentialing. You may download a copy at http://www.nattc.org/accksa.html, or call NCADI 800-729-6686.
